I was having a bit of a bad day last week, so my boyfriend surprised me by taking me to Spoke & Stringer for brunch the next day. I’ve always wanted to go after hearing amazing things about it (they won best breakfast/brunch in Bristol in 2016), and the food looks incredible. I used to live on Jacob’s Wells Road so quite often walked past on my way to the harbourside, and it’s the most amazing setting – right on the waterfront. We have tried to go a couple times but it was always super busy (understandably), so I was really excited to go!
He booked the table for 12, as its only after midday that they serve steak. This was quite lucky, as we both ended up going for the steak sandwich! When we got there it was really sunny so we sat outside, but soon realised that this was a bit ambitious and moved inside. The inside of the restaurant is really cool, with flowers in gin bottles and lots on the walls, so I’m actually glad we got to see it.
Our food was incredible. As I said, we both went for the Steak Sandwich – ‘seared beef in a ciabatta bun, w/ roasted piquillo pepper, salsa verde, served w/ patatas bravas, aioli, house ketchup & mixed leaf salad’. Yes, I copied that off the Spoke & Stringer menu.. which can you view here!
It was a little hard to eat, but definitely worth the struggle. The steak was cooked perfectly and everything that went with it was amazing. I would recommend getting this! Though everything else on the menu looked delicious – I think I want to go back and try one of the House Breakfasts too.
Looks super yum! If I should head to Bristol anytime soon… So much food to try!!!
